Can your joints predict the weather? If your answer is yes, keep reading!
Superior Joint Support is an FSA/HSA eligible joint supplement formulated as an enzyme and mineral blend shown to support healthy joints and cartilage. The combination promotes arthritic pain relief and decreases inflammation. The decrease in inflammation assists patients’ activity and relieves joint stiffness. Superior Joint Support strengthens tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bone matrix as well as reduces swelling and pain due to weather change.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of joint pain affecting most older patients. Those with osteoarthritis are more inclined to joint pain and after restful inactivity, they experience stiffness for a brief period of time. Osteoarthritic joint pain is commonly seen in the hands, knees, hips, and spine, and the direct costs of osteoarthritis include hospital and physician visits, medications, and assistive services. Glucosamine HCl is a therapy that aims to relieve pain and reduce disability, but limited studies suggest it offers little benefit alone, and combination with other agents may provide some improvement (Fox, 2007). Glucosamine aids in the synthesis of proteoglycans and slows articular degeneration, restoring normal joint mobility, and has a positive effect on the metabolism of articular cartilage in osteoarthritis (James & Uhl, 2001).
Such other agents include Chondroitin Sulfate. Because the disease begins with damage to articular cartilage, leading to a vicious cycle of breakdown and excess cartilage loss, glucosamine and chondroitin are commonly used for osteoarthritis treatment. Glucosamine facilitates the production of cartilage cells and increases the secretion of synovial fluid, and chondroitin enhances the shock-absorbing properties of collagen and blocks enzymes breaking down cartilage (University Hospital, 2020). Chondroitin Sulfate appears to be more effective on cellular events of inflammation than on edema formation compared to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (“Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Chondroitin Sulfate,” n.d.).
A study showed that methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM, provided relief from joint pain and improved physical function with no significant adverse effects (“Efficacy of Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) in Osteoarthritis Pain of the Knee: A Pilot Clinical Trial,” n.d.). The data obtained from other MSM trials suggest that MSM may be more effective than a placebo in treating mild to moderate OA of the knee (“Systematic Review of the Nutritional Supplements Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) and Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) in the Treatment of Osteoarthritis,” n.d.). Besides MSM, Boswellia serrata extract is a type of ayurvedic medicine that has the potential to offer an alternative to conventional treatment for chronic inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis (Kumar R. et al., 2022).
If you’re thinking about taking a joint supplement like Superior Joint Support, you might also look into Superior Omega 3 or Superior Omega 3 with Vitamin D as they help support healthy joints as well. Clinical studies show that omega-3 fatty acids could limit swelling and joint pain. It appears that omega-3 fatty acids may influence symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (Kostoglou-Athanassiou et al., 2020).
